1448 Miles- The Flick

So here it is. All 8 Minutes and 28 seconds of it. Whittled down from almost 90 minutes of footage we shot on the drive home. I was trying for under 3 minutes but couldn’t do it. We crossed the country nearly from top to bottom, border to border. We hit a lot of bad weather as you will see, particularly in Montana and northern Utah. Much of the country crossed is bleak and flat but its also very beautiful. It was a very reflective trip for me personally, wrapping up a 6 month “experience” in Idaho. And it was also a transition period for the country. The second day of travel was election day. So it was just really interesting to be crossing so much country at that time, from an internal perspective.
This was all shot with a Nikon D90 and a 50mm f1.4 Lens. Mostly wide open as you can see. I love the night stuff in the rain. It’s very shaky and “jelloy” but worth a look I think. Theres only so much you can do in the cab of an SUV. I was really wishing I had a wide angle lens. The 50mm ends up being a 75 with the crop factor and that doesn’t leave you a lot of room in a tight space like that. I am really itching to shoot something controlled with this camera. Hopefully soon I’ll find the time. It CAN create some wonderful images.
The music is from The Dead Beat Project, by my friend and very talented musician/composer from France (he now resides in the UK) named Olivier Goyet. Olivier is collaborating with us and composing the music for NOW and I am very excited about it. The song is called “Vectors” and it should be noted that I slightly edited his original composition to fit this little piece. I love Olivier’s music and he is very gracious in letting me use it. Olivier is also part of ESOTERIC, a very cool band from the UK.
And heres the flick…
Oh and – It should be noted that every shot in this piece is in chronological order. Playing out in sequence. I trimmed the shots but didn’t rearrange them. Enjoy!

Way belated, but finally saw this.
I usually read/access here from my cellphone,
and the way I access I can’t see videos etc.
I really enjoyed it.
I don’t know what it is, but I believe
being “on the road” makes a man grow.
The only difference between driving/riding
and plane flights/bus rides are that you’re
in control. But that difference is a huge one;
you’re more aware of the scenery, imagine
the lives and history of the land you pass by.
The days of month long bike trips are
long gone for me. I envy your experience.
P.S. Turn that coin 90degrees counter-clockwise
