Dani just sent this over to me. I guess it sorta f-ed me up a little. Maybe because she (Charity) is curled at my feet right now. We just came in from playing outside. We were playing tag at the basketball court in the little park that sits above the pool in our neighborhood. When I went to leave she just sat down, as if to tell me she wasn’t ready. I didn’t turn around to look at her until I was about 30 yards away at the bottom of the hill. Past the grass and onto the sidewalk. I looked back up the hill and she was still sitting there. Still just looking at me. I didn’t say a word, just raised a hand and snapped my fingers. Once. And she came trotting down the hill at a good pace and sat once again at my feet. All I could think was, wow, this dog has come a long ways.
And then I went inside and checked my email and found this.
Charity, soon after she arrived at BRLA, the rescue that Dani volunteers at sometimes and got her from. The photo must be about two years ago old. I thought she was in rough shape when Dani brought her home. Well, she was but this photo is something else.
And so you can see the difference, here’s a very recent picture.
Sometimes we sit and watch her and speculate about what she must have gone through. She gets very anxious when we leave, as if she’s afraid we may never come back. She used to be a lot worse. And we haven’t even had her 2 years.
HERES a little video that Danielle directed and edited shortly after we adopted Charity. I think it’s pretty great. Please don’t get an animal unless you can care for it.
