“Let Me In” Festival Update

Four new film festivals to announce for the music video, “Let Me In”. I was the Cinematographer for director Matt Schutt. You do so much work that just disappears out there. It feels good to see something that you and a lot of other talented people worked very hard on get an audience around the country and even the world. Matt did a great job with this video.

Here’s the latest four festivals.

# 17. We won Best Music Video at the 15 Minutes of Fame film festival in
Palm Bay, Florida, where we screened on July 10.
# 18. We make our Iowa debut at the Hardacre Film Festival in Tipton, Iowa
on August 6.
# 19. The Landlocked Film Festival in Iowa City on August 28 and 29.
# 20. The Native-American-themed Southern Winds Film Festival in Shawnee,
Oklahoma is September 10-11.

“Let Me In” has been selected to screen at 20 festivals so far. Here is the

EKG

These letters have been in my head. Time flows steady like lines on an LCD screen. Like 8bit blips from a mono speaker. Up and down at (also) fairly steady intervals. The metaphor seems to fit. Tiny mountains. Peaks and valleys. Broken fangs. The rhythm of life. Beats of your heart passing through a machine, recorded and erased and then forgotten to make room for the next. No hint of how many more will come. Maybe a few. Maybe a few more after that. Maybe not. Maybe some high points followed by some low points but always moving steadily on. Blip. Blip. And is there a lesson here? Yes. Why? Because everything is a lesson. There will be more peaks and then more valleys and the mountain range of your life will flow on and on into a sunset you cannot yet see until it erodes into the vast plain of eternity. Or something like that. Who can say, really. Who can really say? The rhythm will never stop. Until it does. EKG.

I’m trying to figure out why these words are in my head. Searching for the gift of them. The lesson. The reason. Reason. So writing it down. Working it out. Seems to help. Sometimes you (I) forget to listen to the inner EKG. The heart. The engine of life (in a strictly literal sense). You find yourself a step behind. A step too soon. Stepping on your own toes more often. But when you are in sync. In step. In tune. Ahhh… Perfection.

So I write it down and stick it up on the wall for all (me) to see and I’ll ponder it for several days or weeks or more likely a few months until it flows from sight and onto the second page and beyond. Not unlike an EKG

I’ve been enjoying life. Less computer and more life. Long walks and icecream cones. Bugs and snails and lizards and giant desert turtles. Exploration. Food. Paint under fingernails and erasers rubbed down to the quick. Carving leather and building new realities from cardboard. Trust. Too much sun and then even more sun. Stories and songs and blueprints and games. Questions. Ducks. Picnics. Dealing cards and keeping score without careing. Bandaids. Maybe the beach this week. And I’m going to keep being selfish with my time because right now I’m just enjoying life.

Been kicking this around for a while. In my head that is. Finally got around to spitting it all out. Putting it down. Making it real. I think its about 95% done. I’ll be tweaking it for the next week or so. Taking suggestions. Letting it grow on me and figuring out what does and doesn’t work. In the real world that is.

My friend Justice Howard took the cover photo. I really like it a lot. She’s crazy talented. Krista Knott wrote the bio. She’s been a good friend of mine for many years now. She’s crazy talented too. The words arrived this morning right as I got out of bed. I just sat and stared at them for a long time. Humbled is the best word I can find to describe how I felt. And still feel.

Thank you Krista and Justice for sharing your crazy talent and friendship with me.

I guess this website is a mission statement. A declaration. A line in the sand. A brand new jumping off point. I’m dusting off the all the ambitions I put on a shelf because I told myself I had to do other things first. There is nothing else now. This is who I am and why I am here and what I am doing. Period.

I stopped into the Academy of Country music yesterday for some brief business and as soon as I walked in it was, “Show Ben, show Ben!” Someone pulled out their (The ACM’s) magazine, highlighting the show I helped em with a few weeks ago and low and behold…

That’s my mouth behind the camera under the funny hat. Missed my calling as a paparazzi. I know… Your not impressed. But my mom IS, so kiss off…
